If you’ve never bothered with copyrights, wake up oo. It a BIG deal… Here’s why

What’s Copyright ?

A copyright is the legal property right that an author has over his /her work.

This right gives the author protection, exclusivity and control over his/her work.

Works eligible for Copyright include-

  • Literary works;
  • Musical works;
  • Artistic works;
  • Cinematograph works;
  • Sound recording; and
  • Broadcast

As a Copyright Owner you enjoy the privilege to control how your work is used by others and get paid by a third party that wants to use it.

So how can you know a Copyrighted work-

The moment a work created and expressed in a tangible form, it is copyrighted.

It automatically receives a legal protection.

As long as you did not create that piece, you CANNOT use it until you obtain permission from the owner.

Failure to do so will lead to a case of copyright infringement.

Do NOTE that a copyright owner enjoys copyright throughout his lifetime with an additional 70 years after his/her death.

As soon as this period expires, the work goes into the public domain and can be used freely by anyone.

Do you need to register your Copyright.If so, reach out to us via email and one of our lawyers would be happy to help you out.

We hope you found this information helpful.

However it is for general purposes and not intended as legal advice.
